Long-form generative artwork will be released as part of Tiny Geometries, the group show by Dawn Contemporary opening on alba.art Code is hosted immutably on Ethereum blockchain.
Description
Xeno - is a journey into the unseen worlds of distant star systems. Breathtaking and colorful, dark and frightening. Extraterrestrial landscapes and natural phenomena, traces of extraterrestrial life and minerals, mountains and coastlines, sunsets and sunrises - just to name a few. I have named all the palettes according to the names of the nearest star systems.
Most of the work is done on the fragment shader and the simplex noise, which is used here and there in the shader code. This is one of the most complex shaders I've done so far, some things are quite hard to control, so I'm very happy with the result.
First step
This adventure began in early 2023, in January I created a custom library for the Genuary challenge and experimenting with noises, with which I built one of the first "Xeno" prototypes, but in those days I was not yet aware of its potential, and forgot about it for ~2 months.
Development
Next steps is started from the not too complex shader sketch on my iphone, here a first outputs obtained at March 2023.
Here only a couple effects (lightened and shaded ebges) over different color zones. At this first step i see some kind of minerals or similar..
Next steps of the exploring “Xeno” algorithm gives me a strong organic-look pattern (last image), that became the main part of the artwork. Also here the different patterns excluded from final code, looks interesting too, but not too variative as i think.
To make not just single pattern on canvas i was started to combine zones with different patterns and behaviour Here is the several different branches with this attempts, they started to look as something like fossils of unknown lifeforms or so, good result, but not enough.
This images is also taken from branches with different patterns, not included in the final version of code, but looks interesting. I was made a lot of this attempts till the middle of the summer 2023. At this point I had seen so much potential from the start.
After little rest from “Xeno” i’ve decided to continue with frame experiments. This images shows new approach to split image into zones with different behaviour, it is also take their place in final version of the algorithm. All this steps is made completely on my phone.
Polishing
Near the start of september i’ve decided that “Xeno” will be released as long-form generative art project. At this point i has an 11 different branches, all of them have been migrated to my laptop and i was started to combining them all into single artwork.
Prints
I believe that every serious generative artwork should pass a "print test" to ensure how it will look as a physical object. These two pieces were printed on a 50x70cm canvas and taken their places on adjacent walls, looking stunning in my opinion.
Result
Final results is looks awesome in my opinion, I see here planets and cataclysms, unknown lifeforms and minerals, mountains and skies, sunsets and sunrises and many other things. I think it is a main power of the abstract art - everyone see their picture and it is cool.
Please enjoy!
